While all the Sabbatical Officers work closely with relevant University staff, the President often acts as the University’s key contact within the Students’ Association. As President, Ellen sits on University Executive - the University’s management forum - where she ensures students’ voices are heard on the issues that matter to them.

As your President, I lead the overall representation of our student body to the University. I sit on lots of managerial and governing committees both within the Students’ Association, and the University. Within these, I have the privilege of representing the views and needs of our students, as well as creating change to improve your experience. It was the opportunity to work so cross-sectionally that drew me to the role!

My main goal is to work towards a University and a Students’ Association that is truly accessible and inclusive for all our students, in order to cultivate a strong sense of belonging in our community. I believe this all starts with greater transparency and communication; I am always here to listen to your concerns and ideas, and I look forward to working with you!

You can contact me emailing president@eusa.ed.ac.uk and stay up-to-date on my work by following me on social media.

  •

  • Hello, I’m Ellen MacRae, your Students’ Association President 2020/21!

  •

  • I have just finished my Biomedical Sciences degree and, as a direct entry student, I have been in Edinburgh for three years now. The Students’ Association - through its societies, services and events - has truly enriched my time here, from Racing2Paris to busking with the Clarinet Choir, and much more!
  •
  • I started working for Students’ Association’s Venue Operations department (maybe I’ve met you at the cloakroom for Big Cheese!) in May 2019 and it was here that I realised my passion for working for my student body, which is one of the main reasons why I ran for the role of President.
  •

I work with the rest of your Sabbatical Officers, to represent you – our student body – so please get in touch, or get involved with our Student Council! As a team, I’m looking forward to creating real, positive change on our campuses and to cultivating a Students’ Association and University which is truly accessible and inclusive of all of our members.
