Student MedAID is a student-led charity and society affiliated with the University of Edinburgh registered by OSCR as MFIN (MedAID for International Need) Scottish Charity number: SC039991).
We collect unused and unwanted but viable medical resources from hospitals, organisations, and members of the public, primarily in Edinburgh but more recently throughout the UK as well. We then re-distribute them to under-resourced healthcare institutions abroad through medical students on electives, humanitarian health workers and other NGOs. By collecting surplus equipment, we aim to reduce wastage in the NHS and work towards a sustainable healthcare system both nationally and globally. We believe that every individual has the right to healthcare, and thus, we advocate for equity and accessibility to healthcare resources for those who do not have the voice to do so.
Our members are committed to educating themselves, each other, and our audience on pressing topics in society so that we become a community that is aware of and caters for the needs of others. Student MedAID is an inclusive and safe space for all. We value your ideas, donations, and help- for, without it, we would not be able to put this mission into action in the first place!
Student MedAID hopes to be at the forefront of change. We aspire to cultivate compassion, respect, and humility. Join us in our mission, and together we can take another step closer towards a thriving planet and celebrating our global community.
If you would like to get involved with MedAID, you will be very welcome! On the other hand, if you are not in Edinburgh and would like to help with setting up your own local MedAID, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We would like to encourage you to get to know our society - our vision and mission - as well as to get in touch, sign up and be a part of our charity.
