Best Buddies is a student-run social club for adults with learning disabilities in the local community. We meet weekly on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm at the ENABLE hall at 95 Causewayside.
We organise weekly crafts, games, bingo and other activities, and regularly hold theme nights and parties. We also arrange outings and events, ranging from walks and meals out, to bowling, and pottery painting. We aim to promote real and meaningful friendships between our student volunteers and the adults who we support. Best Buddies provides a valuable opportunity to get out into the community and make a real difference in enhancing the often isolated lives that many adults with learning disabilities lead.
This year we were shortlisted for the RBS Scotland's Real Young Heroes award, and appeared on the STV television series about the Real Heroes awards. We have also featured in Edinburgh University's Annual Review (http://www.ed.ac.uk/about/annual-review/highlights/supporting-student-volunteering-that-forms-lasting). We are incredibly proud of our student group, and warmly welcome any new volunteers.
No experience in working with adults with learning disability is necessary, and we encourage people to come along in order to really see what we are all about! We are a very relaxed group so feel free to pop in any time which suits you between 7pm and 9pm, every Thursday.
If you'd like to know more, please email us, and we'll happily answer any of your questions! email@example.com
