Edinburgh University Blood, Bone Marrow and Transplant Society (EUBBT) is a student run society that raises awareness about blood, bone marrow and organ donation. We provide volunteering opportunities in these areas (join to help out!).

We work with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service to promote blood donation and signpost people to the blood donation centre at Lauriston Place.

Only 3% of people in Scotland give blood. Scotland has a constant need for blood donors as blood cannot be stockpiled.

People need blood for many reasons – after trauma, general surgery, childbirth or to support cancer and leukaemia treatment. By giving blood at least once a year, you can make a huge difference.

We work with Anthony Nolan, which is a charity that runs the bone marrow register in the UK. We run events to sign people up onto the bone marrow register and organise fundraising events for Anthony Nolan.

For people with leukaemia and other blood cancers, a bone marrow transplant is often their last chance at life. Bone marrow is very specific and it is very difficult to find a match. The majority of people cannot find a match amongst their friends and family so have to turn to the bone marrow register. One person may only have one match in the whole world! To increase chances of finding a match, we need more people on the register.

We work with organ donation Scotland to promote awareness of the register and signpost students to sign up.

Although hundreds of lives are saved each year via organ donation many people still die whilst waiting for a transplant. Organ donation allows you to give the gift of life when you no longer need your organs. It's easy to sign up online and you should tell those close to you about your wishes.

We aim to promote medicine and science careers in transplantation and haematology.
