What is LawPALS?
LawPALS is our Law Peer Assisted Learning Scheme. It aims to support the academic and social transition of first year LLB students from their prior learning into the LLB. All first-years are automatically assigned to a LawPALS group led advanced LLB students (Student Leaders). Groups meet weekly for an hour and discuss topics like Legal Research, Mooting and Approaching Legal Essays. The LawPALS Leaders are there to give you their insights and top tips for surviving - and making the most of! - your time at Edinburgh Law School.
How do I sign up?
Quite simply, you don’t need to! As an incoming first-year, you are automatically enrolled and details will be distributed during Welcome Week. Your PALS Leader will email you to introduce themselves to you and tell you when and where your group meets, and you can meet them at the lecture during Welcome Week, too. You can also email the LawPALS Coordinator, Xiaoou Zheng, at LawPALS@ed.ac.uk for more details. (There are separate sessions for those on the four-year LLB, Graduate/Fast-track LLB, and Visiting/Exchange Students. You will automatically be added to the relevant group so you do not need to take action.)
All the students will be invited to a LawPALS welcome lecture during the Freshers’ Week, and a Campus Tour will be led by your student leaders!
