Who is this for?

Some courses for Online PGT students at the Vet school have support from a Peer Tutor. Not all courses have this benefit, and students will receive notification if peer tutors are joining their course.

The peer tutors provide study skills support in semester 2 courses via the course discussion board and/or live sessions using Skype or Collaborate Ultra. A typical example might be discussing the academic writing requirement for an assessed essay - things like writer's block, meeting the word count requirement, etc. Please note that this will not involve any teaching of course content, only academic skills.

Would you like to be a Peer Tutor?

This role may be of particular interest to those in their second or third year of an online MSc programme at the vet school. Full training and support will be provided to prepare you.

We offer a online flexible training process which should take approximately 10 hours. Peer tutors always work in pairs based on timezones and subject interest, and run mock sessions in early December. The training runs from October to December 2016. Live practice sessions are scheduled by Doodle poll for early December.

The peer tutors will directly support the programme courses, and work with the course team to organise live sessions at a time that fits with the course schedule. While peer tutors will normally be based within their core programme, there may be opportunities to support students on other vet school online programmes.

Successful completion of the Academic Study Skills course portfolio is a pre-requisite for those wishing to work as peer tutors. If you have not completed the portfolio yet, you can submit early in October 2016.

There is an option to work towards professional recognition in the form of Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy status.

Email Sharon Boyd if you would like to volunteer for this role.
