The Edinburgh University Singers are a small group of auditioned voices, singing a varied programme of music from across the centuries of choral repertoire under the directorship of Dr John Kitchen, University and City organist, and senior music lecturer.
We perform at official University events such as graduations, in some of the city’s finest venues including the Usher Hall, and great locations abroad whilst on tour. We sing a range of music, from Scots songs arrangements to large scale choral masses and requiems, as well as concerts with orchestras, including Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, Handel’s Coronation Anthems and most recently, Mozart's Requiem.
Our social activities include weekly post-choir pub visits, meals out, flat parties and tours (recently visiting Leipzig, Paris, Tuscany, Prague, Cologne).
Rehearsals are held Wednesdays 7-9:15pm at St. Cecilia’s Hall.
Entry to the choir is by a short informal audition during Freshers’ Week only. An audition slot can be obtained by signing up at the Societies Fair in Pleasance. The number of audition slots are limited so get signed up early to avoid disappointment!
