Sexcetera: Edinburgh's Sexual Health and Wellbeing Week

 

Sexcetera is Edinburgh's sexual health and wellbeing week, co-hosted by the Students' Association and a wide range of student societies. During the week we'll have events on whole host of topics from reproductive rights to body positivity, HIV prevention to consent, and everything in between.

Sexcetera Craftivism with Youth Stop AIDS

Monday February 12th, 12:00-14:00, Balcony Room, Teviot

 

Kick of Sexcetera with a fun and creative activity, producing a canvas inspired by the core themes of the week! Youth Stop AIDS will then ensure the canvas travels through the week's events, being added to by students, until it ends the week a complete piece of art.

Decolonising Sex and Gender Workshop

Monday February 12th, 19:00-20:00, G.06, 50 George Square

 

Many people take the concepts of sex and gender for granted but the reality is that they've been heavily shaped by colonial power structures. Join Sexpression for this workshop which will help you recognise, explore, and challenge the ways in which colonialism constructs and skews our understandings of gender and sex. They'll be looking at power structures, LGBT+ activism around the world, and the conceptualisation of queer bodies, so don't miss it!

 

 

Pal-entine's Day

In honour of Valentine's Day, join the lovely folks over at Bedlam for a celebration of love, friendship and everything in between! For just £4 on the door, you'll get a night full of live music, stand-up and spoken word, enough to get even the lonelinest heart in the mood for love - whether it's platonic or romantic is up to you.

 

 

Feminist Vent: Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare

Tuesday February 13th, 13:00-14:30, Balcony Room, Teviot

 

Whether you've had your sexuality invalidated by a sexual health nurse, your reproductive choices questioned by your doctor, or a heart-warming chat over a smear test, we want to know! Join the Feminist Society for a feminist vent where they'll be creating a safe & supportive space for you to share your stories & your solidarity.

 

 

Let's Talk About Consent

Consent - it's simple, right? Just like a cup of tea, right? But what about when it's not? Join the Students' Association's Women's Campaign & Sexpression Edinburgh for an exploration of consent - a space to discuss those scenarios & situations where consent does not seem so simple or so obvious. 

 

 

Body Positive Life Drawing

As part of Sexcetera - the Students' Association's Sexual Health & Wellbeing Week - join the Liberation Campaigns & RECONFIGURE for a totally free body positive life drawing extravaganza!

If your goal this Valentine's Day is to appreciate yourself just a little more, life drawing is the perfect way to get your head around all the wonderful curvy, knobbly, soft, awkward, hairy bits the human body has to offer.

From 12:30-13:15 we'll have a little life drawing taster with tutoring & an opportunity to ask any questions you might have, & then from 13:30-14:30 we'll have a solid hour of drawing in peace.

Show Off Your Sexpertise: Sexpression Pub Quiz

Back for 2018, it's Sexpression's legedary sexy pub quiz! Come along to the Greenmantle pub and put your knowledge to the test. Can you identify a dog chew from a cock ring? Did you treat Cosmo's tips as a bible? Or maybe you're a dab hand at debunking sex myths from history? Whatever your skill, come along for lots of laughs and a chance to win some great prizes, and prove your sexpert status!

 

 

Abortion Rights in the Island of Ireland: Why It Matters

Join the Students' Association's Women's Campaign and the Scottish Irish Abortion Rights Campaign for an informal and educational look at access to abortion in both Northern Ireland and the Republic. We'll be discussing the legal situation, the upcoming referendum in the Republic of Ireland, and what we can do to campaign for greater bodily autonomy for pregnant people across the island of Ireland.

 

 

The HIV Home Testing Kit: a Talk and Workshop

Thursday February 15th, 19:00-20:00, Middle Reading Room Teviot

 

Testing for HIV has become much easier in recent years but the stigma surrounding diagnosis and confusion around testing availability means many people are still living with the virus undiagnosed. Join Youth Stop AIDS for an engaging and informative talk on testing options and what is being done in the community to get more people aware of their HIV status.

 

 

Polyamory: Entagled Love, Sex and Relationships

Join the lovely folks over at Sexpressoin for an intro to all things polyamory! This workshop will cover scientific, social and ethical perspectives on the subject, plus there'll be fun activities and plenty of opportunities for questions, so whether you're a total newbie or a poly expert, come along!

 

 

Supporting Suvivors of Sexual Harassment and Violence

Friday February 16th, 17:00-18:00, G.01, 50 George Square

 

Join students from Edinburgh Nightline for an informative workshop exploring what you can do to support friends and peers if they experience sexual harassment or violence. There'll be activities on active listening, receiving disclosures, and where to signpost people for additional support. This workshop is open to all so please come along.
