If you would like to promote your society event on the Students' Association's What's On page, fill in this form
Are you interested in sustainable development and social justice? Are you keen on learning how to eat and live healthily? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Would you like to grow crops on a plot of land?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, the Edinburgh Food Security and Sustainability Society may be for you.
Over the academic year, we hope to achieve multiple aims. Firstly, fostering a strong community-spirit is something we all wish to develop. We are also making plans for several talks and panel discussions on current affairs and hot topics relating to food supply chains and agriculture, amongst others.
As mentioned, we have also been allocated a small plot of land at the brand-new Easter Bush Campus. If all goes well, we will be producing small quantities of fruit and veg for society members to care for and consume. If you would like to learn how to grow your own food, or are simply interested in gardening, this could be the perfect opportunity.
Needless to say, we hope to organise numerous socials; from pub quizzes to nights out, potluck or movie nights. Of course, this is all dependent on the COVID-19 situation taking a turn for the better.
Soon we will be hosting our first event, a panel discussion about food sustainability at University. This will be held on the 24th September at 19:00 BST, yet it will be online, so do feel free to attend from wherever. You don’t have to be a member to attend.
