EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY THEATRE COMPANY (BEDLAM)
Join us for an informal meet and greet for freshers and members of the Edinburgh theatre societies who identify as BAME. All participants will have the opportunity to create a supportive network for future projects and life at university.
This will be an informal meet and greet for freshers and existing performers/technicians/producers/stage managers etc. of colour or belonging to a minority ethnic group - i.e. anyone identifying as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic. The purpose is to show that Bedlam is a welcoming space for BAMErs and introduce people identifying as such to Bedlam and student theatre right from the beginning of their university career, in the hope that they feel their voices are valid in the Bedlam space. Older students will help give an insight into the student theatre world, a world that has a majority-white population, a reflection of the Edinburgh uni make-up. All participants will have the opportunity to create a network and community of people with similarly-lived experiences as an 'other' in both the arts and externally. The foundation of such a network will give participants necessary contacts for potential collaborators that would hopefully serve as an inspiration point to create work and share stories from marginalised groups that are needed in and wanted by the Bedlam space.
