Exploring issues of racial and queer identity, The Watermelon Woman focuses on director Cheryl Dunye’s attempts to track down the troubled, elusive past of Fae Richards, commonly known as The Watermelon Woman. Along the way her journey turns self-reflexive, revealing more about her own history than she may have first thought. A rare chance to see the first feature from Cheryl Dunye, a landmark in contemporary queer and African American cinema. The screening will include the short film Where We Are Now, from Local filmmaker Luci Rachel .
