Sat 27 May 2017 23:00-03:00

Wee Red Bar, ECA, Lauriston Place

Bassline for Bears is a new charity night, raising funds for the rescued bears at Animals Asia. The money raised will help to end the horrific bile trade by helping Animals Asia to rescue and rehabilitate the bears, close down illegal bile farms, change legislation, and give these beautiful bears a life of luxury and pampering - https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/our-work/end-bear-bile-farming/. What better way to help the bears than by having FUN, and with that in mind we have a beast lineup of bassline artists, live art from The Too Much Fun Club, a raffle to win the art, an Animals Asia stall and much much more!

The Bile Trade - our cause!

The money raised from this night will help to end the horrific bile trade, which continues today in China and Vietnam. Bile is regularly extracted from the gall bladder of the bear, causing unimaginable pain and suffering and often leading to infection. The bile is used in ancient medicine and is a popular ingredient in a range of supermarket items (shampoo, tea, toothpaste, wine). To enable ease of extraction, the bears are kept in tiny cages for years on end, unable to move properly, or even stand. Until Animals Asia came along in 1993, they had little hope of rescue, but thanks to their hard work and dedication, legislation has been changed, minds have been opened, some 500 bears have been rescued, and numerous bile farms closed down.
However, the work is not done, some 12,000 bears are believed to be kept on bile farms today, and bile farming is still legal in China, not to mention the illegal farms active in Vietnam. Furthermore, Animals Asia continue to care for and rehabilitate the bears they have rescued over the years, and they need our help to do it! So why not come along to Bassline for Bears, dance to some fiflthy bassline, whilst simultaneously helping put back some love in these bears lives :)
