Sat 19 September 2015 20:00-03:00

IT’S THE NIGHT YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! Teviot transforms into the fabulous Freshers’ Ball tonight as we celebrate your Freshers’ Week and your introduction to University life. There is LOADS going on, so make sure you get down early as there WILL be queues.

DEBATING HALL – The fabulous KILTER Ceilidh Band will be sending you whirling all the way through to 3am. Kilts at the ready!

UNDERGROUND – The underground turns into a true funk den tonight with some amazing live music from 9pm by none other than the AKI REMALLY QUARTET followed by GLAMOUR & THE BAYBES. Aki 'The Funky Lion' Remally has been a staple on Edinburgh's face of funk for the last decade. propping up bars on his slender but powerful shoulders with his steadfast repertoire of elastic funk epics on which his guitar aggressively wails and his dulcet vocal chords soulfully preach. He appears here with his family band, including son Jonny on saxophone, guaranteed good time to warm you up from the first beat to the last.Glamour & The Baybes have changed the night life scene of Edinburgh for the better. Fronted by the screaming 4 octave vocal range of Angus "Juicy Lucy" Munro, their unique brand of contemporary funk has kept their weekly residencies the hottest night out north of the border since their inception four years ago. From the classic stylings of the 60s-70s, through to the catalogues of Prince and Jamiroquai, all the way to the funk-jam renaissance of the 90s and beyond; The Baybes make sure every taste is present and accounted for. If swirling organ solos, percussive horns and face melting guitar jams are your thing; you'll want to catch them on this rare weekend stint.

TEVIOT LOUNGE BARTonight we host a roof raising line up of live music in the shape of BRASS GUMBO followed by THE SHIVERIN’ SHEIKS all wrapped up by our house band THE UNREAL BOOK. THE SHIVERIN’ SHEIKS manage to combine bombastic 50’s pop, Country Gospel, Dancefloor Rock n Roll and Doo Wop, and present that with ruthless panache, making sure you will be up dancing for the duration of their set. Think prohibition era vs British beat music, with decided un-British showmanship and you’re nearly there. Brass Gumbo is a musical melting pot of brass and percussion playing funk, jazz and more, all with a distinctly New Orleans flavour. With players from Horndog Brass Band, The Katet, and Orkestra del Sol, Brass Gumbo represents Scotland's top pedigree in funky street music. The Lounge Bar is going to hit the rafters tonight!

LIBRARY BAR – Your very own Fresh Air will be entertaining you in the Library Bar with live DJs, proving why you have the best student radio station in the UK. Elsewhere, in and around the building, we will have you enjoying the chocolate fountain, dancing to the Edinburgh University Jazz Orchestra, you can win chips on casino tables, be bowled over by magic, have fun in the Photobooth and lots, lots, lots more!
