Edinburgh University History Society presents the third of its new three-part seminar series: Don’t Diss the Diss. Aimed at honours students and MSc students, these seminars are designed to give you help and advice from those who know exactly what you are going through: current postgrads. If you are feeling apathetic, overwhelmed, or just downright cannot be bothered to work on your dissertation, get yourself onto zoom for these seminars. You can attend as many or as few of the seminars as you would like. This is seminar three: Research Methods This seminar will help you think about how to go about your research. The presentations will show you how to get the most out of internet archives and facilities local to you. With coronavirus affecting how we think about traveling and researching in other spaces this seminar will show you that you already have everything you need to write a fantastic dissertation… as long as you have a decent WIFI connection! Our presenters and their presentations are: Emily Rose Hay: “A window into the past?” Using newspapers in historical research Sarah Thomson: Researching America from Edinburgh Daniel Heathcote: “I wrote my dissertation on The Smiths’ songs.” How to make a source out of just about anything We will follow the presentations with a short Q&A. We look forward to seeing you all there.
