Edinburgh University History Society invites you to join us on our “Hidden Histories” seminar as we celebrate Black History Month. As a society we will take the opportunity to learn about some of the experiences, achievements and contributions of people whose histories have often been erased, forgotten or ignored. We have three talks, and we will follow with a short Q&A session after. Our three speakers and their papers are: Lisa Williams: ‘The Caribbean presence in Edinburgh in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.’ Anna Adima: ‘Female African students in European universities from the early 20th century to the present: inclusive readings of history to decolonise the academy’ Charlotte James Robertson: ‘“Lives Free of Fear of Any Kind”: The Establishment of Specialist BME Women’s Refuges in Britain, (1979-1989)’ Please register on the Eventbrite link with your university email. A zoom link will be sent to your email address ahead of the event once you are registered.
