It’s Sustain.ED, and Community BEES and Hearty Squirrel Food Cooperative are here to treat you to something that nobody ever refuses…cake!
No, not that preservatives-rich ‘cake’ you find in supermarkets! Our talented students are going to cook up a storm using seasonal, organic ingredients provided by the amazing Hearty Squirrel Coop. To stand up against food waste, we will be searching local shops for overripe bananas for our banana bread, bruised apples for our apple crumble and so much more! Plastic packaging is banned, don’t want any of that nasty stuff close to our hearty bake sale, do we?! We didn’t forget about you, our gluten-free/dairy-free/vegan/veggie friends, we’ve got you covered!
Find us in the Potterrow Dome from 12-2pm, and then again in the evening just before and after the Sustain.ED Panel Discussion (5-6pm and after 8pm outside the Dining Room, Teviot Row House).
All the money raised will go to fund the student-led King’s Buildings Permaculture Garden! Us plant nerds can’t wait to get our hands muddy and build a community based on our shared love for food and the environment. But we need to get the ball rolling first! So, come and sustainably satisfy your sweet tooth and support this exciting project!
If you are interested in food sustainability, passionate about permaculture, and/or just love a bit of cake, come and find us!
Sustain.ED, the Students' Association's annual sustainability festival, will take place on Tuesday 22 October 2019, with a day of events and activities focusing on reuse and reducing single use plastic. See more events you may be interested in here.
