Each year, disasters around the world affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organisations are trying to provide aid to vulnerable people. HOW IT WORKS: Remote volunteers (that's us) trace landmarks using satellite images. Local volunteers then add detail such as street names and neighbourhoods. Humanitarian organisations can then use the information to plan disaster response activities. You don't need to have mapped before we'll explain everything, just turn up! WHAT YOU NEED: A laptop if you have one and some enthusiasm! The event is free and we'll be providing pizza to keep us going!!
