Hi! My name is Beth and I'm running to be your next VP Community. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my manifesto. Check out my 7 main manifesto points below.

1. Creating more opportunities for reuse on campus.

Who doesn’t love Meadows Share? Sharing and reusing old items can save you money and help you to be more sustainable. As VP Community, I want to hold events like swapshops to help students reuse clothing, household items and textbooks.

2. Supporting student artists.

Our student body features some incredible student artists. As VP Community, I want to showcase student and alumni artists through collaborations, student creator fairs, concerts and social media take-overs.

3. Working with the liberation officers to implement greater anti-discrimination awareness, training and policy.

The Liberation Officers do incredible work towards representing and supporting students across the university. As VP Community, I would like to work closely with the Liberation Officers to implement greater anti-discrimination awareness, training and policy, because discrimination in any form has no place anywhere, especially at our university.

4. Connecting students to volunteering and career development opportunities within the social responsibility and sustainability sectors.

As VP Community, I would seek to connect students to more volunteering and career development opportunities in the university and the wider Edinburgh community. I hope this would help students to foster strong networks, gain professional experience, and contribute towards positive change in the community.

5. Supporting and encouraging student political action.

As VP Community, I would aim to support student protest and political action through advice, support and promotion. I also want to see more students engaging in EUSA’s democratic processes.

6. Empowering students in the rental process.

Accommodation and renting can be one of the most stressful parts of student life. As VP Community, I would strive to empower and educate students on their rights as tenants, especially during the current pandemic where living situations can be uncertain and confusing.

7. Recognising and rewarding students and societies for sustainable action.

As VP Community, I would challenge students and societies to take action towards sustainability and reward those who do. I would hope to do this through existing functions but also by creating more spaces and funding opportunities for these actions.
