It’s been a huge decision returning to university part-time. I’d say it’s also been a financial sacrifice, not being able to work the hours I could otherwise and sometimes I feel frustrated balancing work and course commitments. I’d advocate for more flexible forms of teaching, including increasing options for distance learning, which work around other commitments. It would also be great to create an open space for part-time students to network and support each other and share similar concerns to take forward and try to change. Knowing that I’ve made this big decision to study again I want to ensure that courses are relevant and accessible for part-timers and the voice of part-time students and those taking non-traditional routes back into education is heard. I’d love to hear from you and learn from your experience in building a strategy to allow systems and processes for part-time students to be more adaptable and, importantly, work around you and the rest of your life.
