Call for Volunteers!

Are you excited to share your knowledge about Edinburgh and get to know international students and their cultures?

You can apply now to become a volunteer for Edinburgh's Global Buddies Society, a peer support programme for visiting students to the university run by students at Edinburgh, for either one or two semesters.

Every year Edinburgh welcomes visiting International Students from all over the world to take part in all aspects of university life. Global Buddies is a peer support scheme that helps visiting students settle in and become familiar with their new home. We match new exchange students (International Buddies) into small groups with current Edinburgh students.

So if you enjoy making new friends, and want the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, the Global Buddies would love for you to get involved!

There are two types of volunteers within the Global Buddies, Buddy Group Leaders and Supergroup Leaders:

  • Buddy Group Leaders are responsible for supporting their Global Buddies to settle into life in Edinburgh. The role is a great way to make close connections with visiting International Students as you will be in charge of a small Buddy Group. Buddy Group Leaders could even be international students themselves too.

  • Supergroup Leaders are responsible for taking care of their whole Supergroup, in addition to their Buddy Group Leader role. This role is the chance to take on a little more responsibility, as you will be overseeing several Buddy Groups, and acting as a key contact between your Buddies and the Committee.

Volunteering with the Global Buddies is not only a lot of fun - your commitment to the role will also be recognised on your HEAR transcript! You'll receive training and support throughout the year, and volunteering with the Global Buddies also makes you eligible for the Edinburgh Award for Global Citizenship (on campus)!

Global Buddies is an amazing programme and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - you’ll get to know a hugely diverse group of people, attend fun social events and activities, and make a real difference in visiting students' lives.

Please note that you will be required to complete online training during the summer break and attend an in-person training session during Welcome Week, as well as the Buddies Meet and Greet.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on buddies@eusa.ed.ac.uk.

We look forward to hearing from you!
