Volunteering Day


Celebrating volunteering through a range of events and activities to get students thinking about the simple ways they can give some of their time to help others, the benefits of volunteering and connecting students to the community.




This day aims to:

- Be a day of Volunteering projects and events for students and the community. 

- Celebrate the positive impact students have on their communities through volunteering. 

- Spread the word about the volunteering service and opportunities available to students. 

- Show how volunteering can be a fun way to meet new people, develop new skills and boost wellbeing.
- Get students thinking about simple ways they can give some of their time to help others.

Events for you to sign up to

What: Home support volunteer with Positive Help

Helping HIV and hepatitis C positive service users in their own homes with tasks such as cleaning, decluttering, re-organising a room, or even painting and DIY etc.

Time: for 2 hours between 9am-5pm

Location: homes of service users in Edinburgh/the Lothians - agreed in advance with Positive Help.

What: Open doors event

Crisis is a charity which offers ground breaking housing, education and employment services. They work with thousands of homeless people across the UK every year. 

Learn more about Crisis, their work and the range of volunteering opportunities that are available.

Time: Drop in any time between 3-4.30pm

What: SHRUB’S Swap, Reuse & Repair Open Day

The Shrub Swap & Reuse Hub is a student-led cooperative working for a world without waste. 

Try out volunteering with their Food Sharing project, Swap Shop, Crafternoon workshop, Wee Spoke Hub bike repair and more. 

Time: 10am-5pm

What: Make your volunteering project a reality!

Do you have an idea for a project that will benefit the local community and our students? The Activities Team is on hand to provide advice and support to get your project up and running!

Time: Drop in between 10am-3pm

Location: Activities Office, Potterrow, Bristo Square

What: Volunteering and your career - CV and interview workshop

Learn how to present your volunteering experience to future employers with this interactive workshop delivered by the UoE Careers Service.

Suitable for students who currently volunteer but are NOT part of the Edinburgh Award for Volunteering scheme.

Time: 1:30-3pm

What: Arts & Heritage Careers Fair in collaboration with CCCF 2017! 

Hosted by our student-led voluntering group. A range of different arts & heritage organisations that cover a variety of career pathways from conservation to arts education, archaeology to archival work, architects to digital officers and many more.

What: Open event at The Sick Kids Friends Foundation Drop-In Centre

Find out more about the organisation and how volunteers help them to deliver a huge range of projects within the hospital. There are longer term volunteering opportunities as well as being able to help at one off events. Refreshments will be provided.

Time: 4:30-6pm

What: People for People: volunteering and the community

This event features short talks from inspirational students and alumni. Discover how volunteering has made an impact on them and their career development. Organisations who work with volunteers will talk about the impact of volunteers on them.  

Time: 6-8pm

What: Open day at the Students' Association's Advice Place

Come talk to Advice Place volunteers and find out how they’re changing lives

Time: 11am-5pm
