Volunteer Award


By logging your hours with the Volunteering Service you could be eligible for the Volunteer Award and gain HEAR recognition at the same time!


This is for all students who:

  • - Volunteer, regardless of whether their volunteering is through the Students’ Association, Volunteering Hub, University or external organisation. 
    - Volunteer a minimum of 30 hours between May to 30 April the following year.
  • - Continue volunteering beyond one year to receive continued recognition for their contribution to volunteering.
  • - Are not, or cannot participate in, complete, or have already completed the Edinburgh Award for Volunteering or Leadership in Student Opportunities Edinburgh Award.


Get started in a few easy steps:

  1. Create a volunteering profile on the Volunteering Hub.
  2. Log your hours in your volunteering profile.
  3. Complete the skills and review section of your profile.
  4. Submit a reflection on your experience and impact by the end of semester 2 to the Volunteering Service via the reflection form provided.
  5. Receive your Volunteer Award!


If you want to continue receiving recognition for your ongoing volunteering, repeat the steps above each year. You can start again as early as 1 May .

You must be matriculated student during the time of your volunteering and cannot count any time spent volunteering prior to becoming a student at the University towards this award.

A minimum of 30 hours volunteering, plus your reflection on your experience must be completed before 1 May to gain HEAR recognition. 

If you didn’t reach 30 hours, you’ll still get a certificate to thank you for all the hard work you’ve done!


How do I sign up?

Sign up here for the 2020-2021 award. You must sign up no less than one month before this award intake closes on 30 April.
