Edinburgh Award

The Edinburgh Awards recognise students who have made an outstanding commitment to their chosen activity and are run by multiple departments at the University at various times throughout the year.

 

The Activites Department offer two Edinburgh Awards:

·         The Edinburgh Award for Volunteering

·         The Edinburgh Award for Office Bearers (scroll down for further details)

 

All students who obtain an Edinburgh Award will have it registered on their Higher Education Achievement Record (your HEAR transcript)

 

Edinburgh Award for Volunteering

 

What is it and who can participate? 

This is open to any student who currently is a volunteer or would like to become one and undertakes volunteering activities. This Award recognises students’ contributions and impact on their chosen activity and community and encourages them to reflect critically on skills they have developed.

There are 3 different intakes for the Edinburgh Award for Volunteering throughout the year:

Intake 1: Starts October 2017, ends March 2018

Intake 2: Starts January 2018, ends June 2018

Intake 3: Summer Volunteering, starts June 2018, ends August 2018

 

What's involved?

Students are required to:

  • - Log a minimum of 50 hours of volunteering within the timeframe of the Award, reflect on your development and the impact you have made.
  • - Students who go above 50 hours and achieve either milestone of 100, 150 or 200 hours, etc, will have this noted on their Edinburgh Award certificate.
  •  

This Award is split into 3 sections referred to as Inputs.

  • - Complete Input 1 online: Students who have registered their interest for this Award will be enrolled via Learn (the University's virtual learning environment) and         must complete the tasks outlined in Input 1 to mark their official enrollment on it.
    - Further instructions will be sent on how to complete Input 2 and Input 3 when they open for submission.

Register here until Friday 29th September 2017 for Intake 1. It will start on Monday 2nd October 2017.

Edinburgh Award for Office Bearers

 

What is it and who can participate? 

This award is open to any student who is a committee member of a Students' Association Society and recognises significant achievements by committee members over the year. It encourages students to reflect critically on their progress as committee members, on the skills they have developed and on the impact they have made on the student community through their role.

 

What's involved?

Students who have registered their interest for this Award will be enrolled via Learn (the University's virtual learning environment) and further instructions will be emailed to them.

This Award is split into 3 sections referred to as Inputs.

Office bearers are required to complete all 3 Inputs and attend 4 of 8 skills training sessions listed below:

Running Efficient Meetings

Public Speaking

Marketing, Social media and Promotion

Confidence & Assertiveness

Problem Solving and Decision Making

Professionalism & Networking skills
