LAMPS (The Late Antique and Medieval Postgraduate Society) was founded by students who wished to create a cross-disciplinary medievalist forum in Edinburgh.
The society is open to all students interested in subjects from Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, and includes students from Archaeology, Classics, Modern Languages, English Literature, Celtic studies, History, History of Art, and anyone else interested!
We organise weekly papers from members, regular socials, and exciting field trips outside of Edinburgh. LAMPS is also a great way to get to know and discuss key disciplinary issues with other career researchers, present papers in a constructive environment and meet others willing to work on interdisciplinary projects.
This year we will be meeting for our regular seminar series on Monday evenings at 6:15 pm in 50 George Square, room G.01. Papers are approximately twenty minutes long, followed by ten to fifteen minutes of questions and a trip to the pub!
This term we have also organised trips to various medieval heritage sites, including Rosslyn Chapel, Doune Castle, Temple Kirk, Dunfermline Palace and Abbey, Inchcolm Abbey, Huntingtower Castle, Castle Campbell, and Lochleven Castle. We will also hold several socials, including a film night and games night. The full schedule and more details can be found here.
We also have a website! Check for updates throughout the term: https://lampsedinburgh.wordpress.com/.
