Edinburgh University String Orchestra (EUSO) is an orchestra of around 25 string players, rehearsing every Wednesday afternoon from 2.30 - 5.30pm to work towards performances at the end of each semester. We play a wide variety of music and work with a range of prestigious conductors who help us maintain a high standard. This year, at times where we may not be able to rehearse or perform as a full ensemble, we are planning a host of socially distanced chamber music activities, as well as online workshops hosted by visiting professionals. We are a tight-knit group who like to have a lot of fun outside of rehearsals too! Our social secretaries ensure we have regular orchestra socials and this year will be no different. Even if we are only able to meet as a whole group online, one of the most important things about EUSO is making sure everyone feels like part of the family. We are also looking at creative ways in which we can carry on our regular community outreach events online and in socially distanced groups.
Another exciting thing that EUSO normally offers is the chance to go on tour after the May exams, when we go to some of Scotland's most beautiful places for a few days of socialising, rehearsing, and concerts. Last year we had an incredible time on the Isle of Mull, during which we performed in two concerts and enjoyed a whisky distillery tour, and an hike along a beach to see the ruins of a castle, as well as plenty of music and jamming in the evenings. We are hoping this will be possible again come next May!
We'd love you to join, so please audition during Welcome Week in September 2020! Keep an eye on our website and social media accounts for more information.
