Edinburgh University String Orchestra (EUSO) is an orchestra of around 25 string players, rehearsing every Wednesday afternoon from 2.30 - 5.30pm to work towards concerts at the end of each semester. We play a wide variety of music from Handel to Shostakovich and Strauss to Britten and we work with a range of prestigious conductors who help us maintain a high standard.
We also try to have as much fun as possible! Our social secretaries ensure we have regular orchestra socials and last year these included flat crawls, meals out and pub nights.
One of the most exciting things EUSO offers is the chance to go on tour after the May exams, when we go to some of Scotland's most beautiful places for days of socialising, rehearsing, and concerts. Last year we had an incredible time on the Isle of Mull, during which we performed in two concerts and enjoyed a whiskey disterillery tour, and an hike along a beach to see the ruins of a castle, as well as plenty of music and jamming in the evenings. Tour is a highlight of the EUSO year as you get to play some fabulous music and make some great friends; next year we will be heading to the Lake District!
We'd love you to join, so please audition during Freshers Week in September 2020! Audition slots will be allocated at the Societies Fair and will take place in Alison House on Friday and Saturday of Freshers Week. Good luck!
