Edinburgh Political Union is one of the oldest and largest societies at the University of Edinburgh. We have a proud tradition of hosting distinguished speakers from the different areas of politics, diplomacy and media.
We have previously hosted the Former US Secretary of Labour Robert Reich and Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown amongst others. We aim to encourage debate on contemporary issues in international affairs as well as bring people together to foster long-lasting friendships and develop new skills. As the official society representing the Department of Politics and International Relations, we are an academic community that promotes peer learning and support. Our strong ties to alumni allow us to bring career events to campus and help students when applying for internships or seeking employment.
We host regular meetings and politically themed socials such as pub quizzes and organise the Annual School of Social and Political Science Ball. We also publish Leviathan, the University of Edinburgh's Journal of Politics and Current Affairs that gives all students a chance to feature their work in a student-led publication. You can find out more about the journal and flick through previous issues here. In addition, we host a radio show called The Backbench and give students a chance to engage in political commentary.
As you can see, there are many ways for you to get involved with EPU and it does not matter whether you are a PIR student or not. We are here to make sure that everyone will have a great time at the university and we look forward to seeing you!
