The Mechanical Engineering Society

Welcome to the page for our society, aimed to bridge the link between academia and industry, as well as create a network of Mechanical Engineers at each stage of their degree and career.

Here you will have the opportunity to take part in several events and workshops, as well as develop important contacts with real life engineers. You will also be able to meet engineering students (or otherwise) from the university and throughout the UK.

We aim to host events such as guest talks and industrial visits to broaden our understanding of what the working world is like. CV and cover letter workshops will also be held for the benefit of those applying for jobs - whether for an internship, placement or post-graduation!

Over the past year, our society has introduced the academic family scheme to help students have a sense of support throughout their university experience. So far, we have intergrated students from three years of the degree programme, but will be expanding in years to come.

Our socials will include pub crawls, pub quizzes, sport competitions, etc. Hence, the society is a great way to have fun and meet more people like you!

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please do let us know.

  • As a society of the Edinburgh University Students’ Association, the Mechanical Engineering Society has a duty of care to provide and maintain safe and healthy conditions and equipment for members. The activities and events organised by the society will require the completion of a risk assessment before it can happen, to minimise the risk of accidents and incidents occurring. A risk assessment is about identifying sensible measures to control the risks at event or activity.
