The Edinburgh Sport and Exercise Medicine Society (ESEMS) is a student-led society open to all students interested in the fields of Sport, Exercise, and Medicine. As a society, we have a number of goals:

  • The Society puts on a number of interesting talks and tutorials throughout the year, where students can learn about current topics in the field - such as the hot topic of concussion in sport, and how psychology influences athletic performance.

  • We provide the opportunity for students to achieve an accredited National Sports First Aid (NSFA) qualification that allows students to act as first aiders in a voluntary and paid role; such students are also given the opportunity to provide first aid for University sporting events.

  • We aim to support students studying Applied Sports Sciences, Physical Activity for Health, and Medicine.

  • We have a number of connections with the Physical Activity for Health Research Centre (PAHRC) and can put students interested in research in contact with current project supervisors.

  • Finally, this year, we intend to host the 1st Undergraduate Sports and Exercise Medicine Conference in association with Aberdeen Sport and Exercise Medicine Society.
