Amnesty International is an organisation of ordinary people from across the world standing up for humanity and human rights. Our purpose is to protect individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.
Last year, our events included 'An Edinburgh Housewarming' which was a cultural celebration by and for newcomers to Scotland in cooperation with Syrian Futures, Justice for Palestine and many more, a fundraising Ceilidh, Speak Up Open Mic! fundraising for the Edinburg Rape Crisis Center, we also joined several marches ranging from the International Womens Day March and the Climate Strikes; and much more.
In the past we have had long-term projects such as 'My Home Is Not A Bathtub' - a photo stunt campaign (with real-life bathtub!) for the legal recognition of those fleeing the increasingly disastrous effects of climate change, and ran a successful campaign to abolish tuition fees for asylum seekers at Edinburgh University.
If you are interesteed in starting a working group focused on a topic of interest; such as abortion, LGBTQIA, refugee rights etc. Please join our main meetings or email us!
We would love for you to join us in shaping our society!
We have our weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 7pm upstairs in the Chaplaincy.
We also hold weekly letter writing sessions downstairs in the Chaplaincy from 12noon - 2pm on Wednesdays.
