Amnesty International is an organisation of ordinary people from across the world standing up for humanity and human rights. Our purpose is to protect individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.
Last year, our events included a week of fundraising for the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre, an Equal Love Party in cooperation with BLOGS, two successful Jamnesty events, a candle-led vigil to show solidarity with all those suffering from the humanitarian crisis in Syria; a Scottish Student Conference with talks and panel discussions from various experts within and beyond the university; and much more.
We also started up a long-term project called 'My Home Is Not A Bathtub' - a photo stunt campaign (with real-life bathtub!) for the legal recognition of those fleeing the increasingly disastrous effects of climate change, and ran a successful campaign to abolish tuition fees for asylum seekers at Edinburgh University.
This year we hope to carry out similar actions - as well as entirely new ones.
We would love for you to join us in shaping our society!
We have our weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 7pm upstairs in the Chaplaincy.
We also hold weekly letter writing sessions downstairs in the Chaplaincy from 12noon - 2pm on Tuesdays.
