Global Buddies is a peer support programme for visiting students coming to the University of Edinburgh for one or two semesters. The aim of the programme is to support visiting students’ transition into a new academic and cultural environment.
At the same time, Global Buddies gives full-degree students at the University of Edinburgh an opportunity to learn about other cultures and to meet people from across the world.
In short, Global Buddies is a great way for students to meet new people, share experiences, and make the most of their time at the University of Edinburgh.
All participating students are matched into Buddy Groups, consisting of two full-degree students (Buddy Group Leaders) and six visiting international students. These Buddy Groups are at the heart of the Global Buddies programme. They meet up regularly and offer an invaluable social network throughout the semester.
In addition, there are events and activities as well as training and various other opportunities.
If you have any questions about Buddies, you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit our FAQ page.
'Edinburgh's global and diverse campus community is one of the best things about this University. Global Buddies connects students from all around the world, helps students transition into a new city and builds long-lasting friendships. Transitioning into university life has its challenges: this programme allows students to face these challenges together, meet people from all around the world and learn about new cultures.' − Jonny Ross-Tatum, Edinburgh University Students' Association President 2015/16
