The University of Edinburgh is offering grants for at least 200 students to undertake a short-term international experience abroad.
Social Responsibility and Sustainability - Student Project Grants
We’ve teamed up with the University’s Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability to provide this grant to support student-led projects which focus on sustainability and social responsibility. This year’s application deadline was 10 November 2017.
The Social Responsibility and Sustainability Student Project Grant provides small amounts of funding (up to £500) for student groups or societies looking to develop and implement projects around several themes:
- Energy and carbon
- Fair trade
- Food and drink
- Resource efficiency
- Sustainability in learning and teaching
- Sustainable travel
Student Experience Grant
Run by the University’s Development and Alumni Office, Student Experience Grants are one-off contributions designed to support unique activities in teaching, research and student life, or to provide “start-up” funds for new, extra-curricular initiatives.
ESCA Charity Fundraising Grant
You can apply for up to £350 to fund innovative, creative fundraising projects and events. If you require a larger amount of funding, we will consider this but please provide a detailed outline of your budget.
The selection criteria is as follows:
- How creative/innovative the idea is
- How viable/appropriate the idea is
- How clearly explained the plans and goals are
- How much money it could raise for charity

Social Responsibility & Sustainability - Community Grants
The Edinburgh Local Community Grants scheme supports the development of projects, community activities and sustainable local action. The scheme welcomes applications for projects or activities that will involve and benefit people living and/or working in the Edinburgh City Region.
Social Responsibility & Sustainability - Sustainable Campus Fund
The Sustainable Campus Fund is an internal investment vehicle that provides financing to parties within the University for implementing energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other sustainability projects that generate cost and carbon savings. It is delivered by the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability in partnership with Estates. The fund is a real opportunity for anyone in the University to propose projects that could reduce the University’s impact on the environment.
Institute for Academic Development: Festival of Creative Learning
The Festival of Creative Learning is a year-long festival exploring creative learning and innovation at the University of Edinburgh. It is supported by the Institute for Academic Development (IAD).
Institute for Academic Development: Action Fund Small Grants
The IAD offers funding for University of Edinburgh staff and students to develop and support academic networks and communities and/or test ideas for creative learning activities. (Includes Festival of Creative Learning Pop-ups.)
