Opposition politicians demanded that Education Secretary, Fiona Hyslop, return from her holidays to settle an argument about how £30 million of support should be given to students.
A meeting between the government, the National Union of Students Scotland (NUS) and opposition politicians ended in stalemate after Fiona Hyslop's stand-in Keith Brown refused to consider proposals brought forward by NUS on how the money should be distributed.
NUS proposed extending the additional loan to students over 25 and increasing it across the board to give the poorest students an extra £700.
Fiona Hyslop will be making a big education policy announcement at a press launch in Pleasance Cabaret Bar at 3.30 today, Wed 28 Oct. Please be there if you are interested.
