As a student group we promote these values through educational activities and act to prevent human rights abuses. Last year our activities included: campaigns on issues such as womans rights in the Congo, maternal mortality, forced evictions; a flash mob to get petition signatures to release the remaining British resident living in Guantanamo Bay; a sleepout in the Pleasance Courtyard to raise awareness of the destitution of asylum seekers (and subsequent write-up in the Scotsman!); a human rights hustings with potential MSPs; a showing of the film 'Outside the law: stories from Guantanamo' and Q and A with the director Andy Worthington; and fundraising events such as the Dancing for Dignity celidh and the Secret Policemans' Ball comedy night with the Improverts and the Revue Society. We can also be found in Teviot after out meetings and enjoy regular socials such as AmnesGlee: a karaoke night with free pizza! We were also nominated for Best Society, Best Event, and Best Community at the EUSA society oscars!
Our main meetings are every Wednesday 7:15-9 upstairs in the Chaplaincy and our more informal lunchtime letter writing sessions are 12-2 every Monday in the Chaplaincy audatorium.
