Edinburgh University West Coast Swing Dance Society Logo

Welcome to the Edinburgh University West Coast Swing Society. Here you can learn more about West Coast Swing and sign up for classes.

West Coast Swing is a modern partner dance from California. Modern and stylish it can be danced to a wide variety of music making it the perfect style to dance out and about.

Classes are every Thursday from 8:00pm - 10:00pm. Classes take place in the Ochil Room, Pleasance (someone will be waiting in the cabaret bar 10 minutes before the start of class if anyone can't find the room) and we usually follow the class with a drink and nachos in the cabaret bar.

Don't worry if you don't have a partner as we rotate the class so everyone gets a chance to dance. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes (trainers are not recommended as they tend to stick to the floor and will make things a bit harder). No experience is necessary as we start from the basics and build up from there.

Social Events

Social events are a chance to practice the patterns you have learnt in class in an open and friendly environment. We will have a busy sechedual of social events around Edinburgh that are great for beginners to try out some social dancing and for experts to show their moves! This year there are plans to link up with another West Coast society from Oxford in which we will put up students for the weekend and show them the sights and sounds of Edinburgh, as well as do lots of dancing.

The best way to keep up with any informal West Coast events is to join our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/euwcsds
