Funding and Money

Fee support:

If you are a UK or EU undergraduate student then you can apply to get help with paying your fees, either through a grant or a loan depending on where you are from.

Student Loans:

UK undergraduate students can apply for help with their living costs in the form of a student loan. This is includes a basic non-income-assessed element and a larger income-assessed element. If your student loan is delayed for any reason, come and see us at the Advice Place where we may be able to issue you a Late Award loan to tide you over until it comes in.

Additional grants may be available for parents, carers, disabled students, care leavers, travel expenses, young students and part-time students. For more information ask at the Advice Place or see the government funding websites below.

Postgraduates:

There is limited government funding at postgraduate level. SAAS run a Postgraduate Students’ Allowances Scheme (PSAS) which offers a limited number of eligible students support for one short course of professional or vocational training, mostly at diploma level.

Students studying PGDE or PGCE teacher training courses may be able to get the same student loans, bursaries and fee support as undergraduate students.

Professional and Career Development Loans arranged through certain banks can sometimes be taken out to cover course fees and living costs. See the Directgov website for more details.

There are many scholarships and research grants that offer funding for postgraduate students. For more info check out the Scholarship and Student Finance office website.
