Student Councils
The Student Councils work to improve the student experience at Edinburgh, and campaign on issues students care about both within and out-with the University. There are three Student Councils with specific remits:
-
The Academic Council deals with all things related to your academic experience while you are a student at Edinburgh. Do you want better feedback? Would you like the University to use more veried form of assessment? Improved Library access? The Academic council is the place to take your issues.
-
The Welfare Council works to improve student welfare and support at the University. Should the University do more to support students with mental health issues? deal with exam stress? Are the support services of the University (Counselling and the Disability service for example) meeting student needs? The Welfare Council is the place to take these issues.
-
The External Affairs Council campaigns on issues external to the University but which have a huge impact on you while you are at Edinburgh: funding, private accommodation, community relations and student transport are just some of the issues which External is responsible for.
Any student is eligible to stand for election to the Student Councils, and all students can vote in the General Election in March and the bye-election in October.
