Harassment and bullying are taken very seriously by the University, whether it is derogatory name calling, belittling remarks, ridicule, insults, verbal abuse, threats, unwanted personal attention or physical assaults.
Every student has a right to feel safe and we take this right very seriously.

I am being harassed by a member of staff or another student, what can I do?
If you feel that you are being harassed by a member of staff, or another student, the University has a harassment code of practice.

What kinds of harrassment?
Sexual Harassment
For support concerning sexual harassment or assault, women can also contact Rape Crisis, or the Women and child Unit at St. Leonard’s' Police station.
Racial Harassment
If you are being racially harassed you can also contact Edinburgh and Lothian Racial Equality Council will be able to offer advice and assistance.
I am unhappy with the way my course is being run / I have been treated very badly by a member of staff. What can I do?
If y
ou are dissatisfied with any aspect of your experience at the University, whether this relates to academic provision or with an administrative or support service, then there are a number of ways you can address this.
The University has an official complaints procedure, however before proceeding to an official complaint you should ideally first try to resolve the issue by raising it with the person, department or support service concerned if you feel able.
Can I get help with making complaints?
There are staff based in the EUSA Office at Potterrow and the Advice Place who can help you with your complaint. If you are not sure who you should initially raise the complaint with then contact us for advice.
Can I get help with representation issues?
It may be that your issue isn’t necessarily a complaint, but a representation issue.
If you have concerns about your course, especially if a group of you feel the same way, you could raise these with your class rep so that they can be discussed at the appropriate staff-student liaison committee.
You could also contact your School reps. If your concern relates to broader University policies then you can contact either the EUSA President or VP Academic Affairs. Both are based in the EUSA Office.
